The way we do one thing is the way we do everything…

The way we do one thing is the way we do everything…

My dear friend,

I sometimes happen to be hit by inspiration in the weirdest places or times. Today as I was climbing up the stairs to my apartment in Vienna (enough of them to have the time to come up with an enlightened insight!), I reflected on how things had changed since I quit alcohol about 10 months ago. And I am not talking about my social life, but my understanding of my own body and my relationship with it.

Let me explain.

About ten months ago, I decided to quit alcohol because I realised that to move forward in my life, I would need to face what was creating discomfort instead of trying to mask it with all sorts of coping mechanisms. As I ventured on this journey of feeling, something interesting happened. As I opened up to my feelings, I started becoming aware not only of my thoughts and emotions, but also of what was going on in my body. As if I had installed a new software that now allowed be to feel everything.

It’s funny because my mantra when I started that new journey was “I am willing to make a change, I am willing to see things differently”. I set it as my screensaver, and it still is, actually. I didn’t expect to that much change though. Or to see that many things differently! But I did. For years, and I think it would be more appropriate to say for decades, I had had certain health annoyances that I thought were just normal. Things were the way they were, and that was it.

But as I started this alcohol free life, and this feeling journey, I started becoming aware of sensations in my body when I ate certain foods. And I started noticing how good my body felt when I ate other foods. My alcohol free journey soon became a gluten free journey as well, and a little bit further along the line I started cutting off certain people as well, all the while integrating what made me feel good. It may seem absurd, but I have established a new found relationship with my Self, body, mind and spirit.

Those health annoyances I thought were just part of me, well, they’re gone. They do sometimes sneak in, but I now know why and how to make them leave. And today, while I was climbing the stairs, it struck me. Yesterday, Jenna Yamasaki said in one of her videos “The way we do one thing is the way we do everything”. It suddenly made sense. We tend to compartmentalise life: love, relationships, health, work, money, etc. That is just an illusion! We might not be aware of our behaviour in certain areas of our life, but if we behave in a certain way in one area, chances are we apply the same pattern everywhere else.

I thought I was refusing to deal with my emotional issues, but it turns out I had been refusing to hear not only my feelings, but my whole Self. And choosing to open up in one area led to opening up in all areas (and solving soooooo many issues!!). Isn’t that amazing? Well, I am blown away!Everything is connected!

In this week’s episode of The Interviews, I talk about sex with Monica Geboiu. What to do when your sex life equals lack, rejection, frustration and other not so good things? As I just said earlier, everything is connected. So how not to let that affect the other areas in your life? Watch us share our own experiences and how we dealt with them.

If you’re on the road and would rather listen to it, there’s also an mp3 version available!

Have you ever had a similar experience? Not just the sex part, but a time where you thought you were changing one area of your life and it turned out that the change went way further than you’d imagined? I’d love to know about it! What did you do? How did you feel? Hit the reply button and tell me everything about it!

In the meantime, I’ll go make dinner. Looking forward to hearing from you!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!
