Inspiration doesn’t knock twice

Inspiration doesn't knock twice

Today I allowed myself a day off.. kind of… I called the office and asked if I could shift my last day to Friday, because today I had important stuff to take care of at home…. (and by that, I meant MYSELF )

I woke up, or should I say, was woken up by inspiration banging on my brain’s door … It was 5 am. So I tried to get more sleep. And then it was 6.30 am, so I decided to stay home with that inspiration and cancelled the office. Inspiration kept coming. On and on and on. I wanted to get some more sleep but the ideas were gushing in like water from a firehose gone wild…

I tried to engrave every idea in my brain for when I’d wake up again. I need to remember this, I thought. Yes. There you go. This is going to be the first part of my book. And then this is going to be the second part, and I will talk about this and that. And then, this is going to be the third part. Yeah. Got it. It’s going to be right there when I wake up. I can make it.

I woke up almost  4 hours later……  All I could remember was that there was something I was supposed to remember. But I had absolutely no clue what it was.

Isn’t the human brain amazing? One moment it’s hundred percent sure of something, and a few hours later, it’s gone… like, Huh? What..?

I had already decided to stay home so I worked a bit on my website. As I was chatting with a friend, I remembered. It was the three stages of my book. How I’d call them. But there’s a difference between remembering and finding the inspiration back.

I think as Liz Gilbert says, you don’t find inspiration. Inspiration finds you…

So I’m learning my lesson. I need to, now that I’m writing my book. When inspiration knocks, the options are: answering now, or letting her leave, probably forever. I like that idea though, it makes it more precious and gives it a touch of magic, like something that comes from another realm that decides to bless you with a visit…

It reinforces the idea of co-creation that writing a book is: You being a channel for words, stories, wisdom to flow through you. If you want to learn more about how I used that process to write my book in 14 days, check out my Writing Workshop!

Are you writing something at the moment? I’d love to hear about your process and how you’re doing it! Share in the comments!
